My Story – Part 2: I Bet on Myself

It was December 2017, during a holiday event at the mall, that I had a chance encounter that would change the course of my life. A random stranger approached me, and offered me a sample of Color Street nail polish strips. I was super intrigued by the idea of dry nail polish so I tried them on.  I was immediately impressed by the ease and simplicity of the product and LOVED the way my nails looked. I went home and ordered EIGHT sets. Within a week, I found myself receiving compliments on my nails left and right.  I was telling EVERYONE about this amazing new product…but I wasn’t going to sell it!!!

A couple of weeks later, the week before Christmas (!!) Mitch and I joined a (much younger) friend in Vegas for her 30th birthday.  She has had a rough year and decided to leave it behind with a Vegas Birthday Bash.  With two young kids at home, it wasn’t the most convenient time for a trip, but there we were, along for the adventure.

I’m not a gambler at all, but I found myself in the casino watching everybody else at different tables. Mitch was at the craps table, surrounded by a cheering crowd.  My friend was at the blackjack table, having no idea what she was doing. Another one of her friends was at the roulette table and he was throwing hundred dollar bills down and shouting, “Bet on black! Bet on black!” In that moment, I decided if he could bet $100 on less than 50-50 shot of winning then I bet $129 on myself!!

I headed to a slot machine, where I discreetly researched Color Street on my phone. I quickly connected with a sponsor and learned more about the opportunity. And although I decided to join, I told her “I’m NOT selling this product. I’m not growing a team.  I’m not hosting parties.  I just want my own business card so when someone compliments me on my nails I’m giving them my card instead of someone else’s”.

To my surprise, within the first week, I had sold $250 worth of nail polish, and within the month, I had three new team members. Still, I had no intention of turning this into a full-blown business. However, by July, I felt obligated to attend the Color Street conference to support my small team.  So there I found myself…back in Vegas, where it all began.

During a powerful moment at the conference, we were encouraged to envision our biggest dreams. Bigger than big, huger than huge…what could Color Street do for us.  While others imagined things like new cars and dream houses, all I could picture was being on the couch with my kids.  Snuggling with them and being FULLY present in their lives. It was a profound realization for me.

Later that night, as I watched successful executives walk across the stage, I turned to my sponsor and said: “I’m walking that stage next year.” And I meant it. Over the next year, I poured my heart and soul into my Color Street business, working harder than ever before.

In July 2019, my dedication paid off as I proudly crossed the stage as an Executive Director with Color Street. It was a moment of immense pride and fulfillment, marking the culmination of my journey from skeptic to success story.

It’s been years since that moment but it’s one that lives in me every day.  I bet on myself, and my bet paid off!
